and the Magic Tango group.

Tatiana Balashova is originally from Moscow (Russia) and currently resides in Vancouver (Canada). An experienced tango dancer (over 12 years), she currently runs  a monthly milonga in Vancouver with a team of friends ("Milonga Sentimental") and also used to organize a beautiful Zen Milonga for about 4 years, which dancers have described as "truly magic in atmosphere and music".

Tatiana has been been DJ-ing on regular basis since 2009 at various milongas in Vancouver (traditional and alternative), and special events in North America:

  • La Garufa Festival - 2011, 2016
  • San Diego Tango Festival 2012, 2013;
  • Milonga Querida (LA, USA), Milonga LAX (LA, USA),
  • Milonga La Vida (Seattle/Bellevue, USA),
  • Montreal Tango Nuevo Festival 2011 (traditional, alternative),
  • Vancouver Tango Marathon 2012,
  • Magic Tango Weekend 2011, 2012

Her DJ-ing style is to look for music which best fits the moment depending on dancers & ambiance. She likes to combine the tango music of golden age with some personal touch & cortinas for a  variety of moods. She enjoys creating a positive, romantic, relaxed & yet dynamic atmosphere so that enthusiastic dancers are inspired to keep on dancing every tanda and newcomers can't wait to get on the dancefloor, whether it is an evening, a late night or a matinee milonga. "DJ-ing in a way is similar to editing a movie where each frame is unique and interesting and all together they can organically create an unforgettable, captivating story to carry you away from everyday life routine."

Even if DJ-ing more often at traditional milongas, Tatiana also loves DJ-ing mixed ratio and alternative once in a while.

Being influenced by music of various genres she likes following, leading & swapping roles, as well as teaching tango. In the life outside tango she is an accessories designer, photographer, and dances a few different dance styles: zouk, kizomba, fusion dancer, bachata and a bit of salsa.

Tatiana also enjoyed exploring non-tango DJ-ing  a few times @ "Coalescence" blues-fusion events.

Fusion dance is amazing and inspiring, a chance for every dancer to develop their personal style and blend a few different dances, allow your body just to tune into the music and partner and express together the beauty of that composition and connection. It can be inspiring, engaging and liberating in some way.

DJ-ing at every night is special and the choice of songs depends on the event atmosphere, people on the dance floor and overall mood and what you want to create on that night to contribute to the evening of blues-fusion dance. I like a combination of driving groovy songs with stretchy, as well as some mellow compositions, with a variety of mood and tempo and so that overall it feels like a connected and harmonic story guiding you through this journey of that particular evening. Some DJ-ing shifts might be more playful and positive, others more smooth and melancholic, even I as a DJ would not know it for sure before the event. as this story unravels in real present time.

My collections of music and 6+ year experience in DJ-ing at traditional and alternative tango events as well as dancing a variety of dances can definitely help to create a unique style and hope people will respond to it and enjoy it.
