Tango Classes - FAQ
On this page you can find a few Frequently Asked Questions about Magic Tango Classes.
FAQ about Classes for Beginners:
1) Do I need to have tango or dance experience?
Taking part in a beginner bootcamp / series of group classes for beginners / private classes does not require prior experience in tango, however if you have it it's awesome, you can process information on a different level. If you've mastered one role (leader or follower) and would like to start learning another one, you are most welcome to join as well at any stage of learning.
I teach 10 versions of beginner bootcamps and vary series of beginner classes. There are certain tango fundamentals that usually is beneficial to learn a few times and even advanced dancers can benefit from brushing up the basics. Lessons are interractive and each one is unique in some way depending on people and questions from students.
2) Do I need a partner?
Argentine tango is a partner dance, many excercises are done in a couple format. Some solo (e.g. technique and drills).
It depends on the bootcamp / class / workshop, check the specific page of the event.
It can depend also on when you are paying for the workshop, e.g. in some cases it is ok to register without a partner in advance, however due to balancing roles drops-ins (if allowed) can only be with a partner.
You are most welcome to share the event information with your friends and perhaps some of your friends or relatives, colleagues can be interested in joining as well.
3) Are partners rotated or I have to stay with a specific partner?
Generally it is recommended to try combinations with different partners as it helps to learn faster and be able to adapt to various types of leaders and followers. Metaphorically speaking, it is like driving, you get to know how to drive in different streets and roads with different passengers.
If you registered with your partner and want to stay all class with him / her, perhaps you can at least swap roles and learn both roles,
it can help you to be a more versatile dancer and learn faster.
If someone in the class makes you feel incomfortable or very vulnarable, please free to let the instructor know (finding a moment to share it in private). You can also set some borders with respect to other people, if you think it is necessary/ appropriate.
4) I feel shy / restless / anxious / intimidated (etc.) is this normal?
YES! Every dancer at some point might have felt shy or intimidated by social dancing, because there is a certain level of
discomfort in overcoming some challenges while learning to dance, as well as if you are an HSP, empath or sensitive to energies of people you might feel what other people feel more, e.g. even if you are not anxious or intimidated, you might "pick that up" from others.
There are certain techniques how to overcome that in dancing and life. With practice and experience also some social anxiety and other feelings might be easier to cope with, however even advanced dancers after 20 years of dancing can feel some discomfort, depending on the circumstances. We are all human!

4) How to I know whether is a bootcamp / workshop / class is a good fit for me?
Usually there is a topic of the class and a program for the bootcamp or class series.
Beginner classes cover FUNDAMENTAL CONCEPTS of Argentine tango. These types of material can be taken a few times
as each series has its unique group and dynamics. There are layers and layers of knowledge and skills as well.
Topics (focus) of bootcamps and classes vary.
Usually each class has some tips for connection, smooth embrace, musicality and floor craft.
Some lessons might go deeper into elements used for a specific dance,
e.g. tango, vals or milonga, or dancing to specific music.
If you are looking for something specific, feel free to contact the instructor (Tatiana), as well as put a request for a class.
Classes and bootcamps have progressive format, at first students learn simpler elements and combine them into combinations with variations.
Groups often are between 8 to 24 people, attention to everyone is guaranteed!
5) I did some ballroom dancing, is the bootcamp/ classes good for me?
Having some experience in other dances is not required however it helps with body awareness, musicality, sense of rhythm. You will most likely learn faster than other people. However I would not expect many things overlapping, ballroom tango is very different from Argentine tango.
6) Can I drop in to the bootcamp / classes?
Drop-ins usually are not allowed (unless it is explicitly said so), because it is important to balance roles
and amount of students is limited per class to ensure attention to everyone. Please read the conditions
for each class series / workshop / bootcamp.
In some cases if there is a need for more students to balance roles, e.g. one more leader or follower is needed,
you might be allowed to drop-in if you know the material taken at previous classes (have more experience in tango).
7) Can I join the classes if I am LGBT+ ?
Yes, you are welcome, you just have to decide and specify which role you would like to learn.
If you are unsure, mention it in the registration form and instructor will help you to choose.
In some cases e.g. if you register with a partner who also is not sure what role to choose, you can swap roles.
One of the tasks of the instructor usually is make sure that roles are balanced in the class and everyone has a partner.
8) I really want to join the bootcamp yet the day / time does not work for me.
