How to choose the Shoes, Clothes and Accessories for tango practice and events?
For Argentine tango classes and dancing we highly recommend wearing comfortable clothes and leather/suede sole shoes. Street shoes are not permitted. Avoid sharp toes, square heels and shoes that leave black marks on the floor.
If you don't have special tango shoes try jazz/dance sneakers as they could be comfortable especially for practicing, otherwise cotton sports socks could be fine for the first classes (the ones which are a bit thicker on the sole).
Shoes tips for gentlemen: gluing a suede sole to sneakers like "Puma" and similar flat-sole shoes will help use them as dance shoes (the fluffy side should be out for better sliding!)
NB: It's not recommended to use them both as dance and street shoes.
Shoes tips for ladies: most popular women's shoes are Bandolera, Comme il Faut, Neotango and Tango Brujo and some other brands (Comme il Faut tend to be a bit narrower than Neotango, Tango Brujo has a softer/thicker sole), usually the most comfortable heels are 4-5cm/ 7.5-8.5cm.
We highly recommend trying the pair of shoes before bying when it's possible!

Neotango
www.neotangoshoes.com *** There are lots of other good brands for tango shoes, in Argentina there are even shoemakers who can design a custom-made pair of shoes for you for quite reasonable money. In general the price of a pair of women's tango shoes would cost anywhere from $50 to $120/$150. It is usually cheaper to buy shoes in Argentina.

*** Second-hand shoes in good condition might also be an option if they fit well and you like the design. It's quite common to exchange shoes as well… Keep in mind that some shoes are easier to get stretched with time than others (depends on the material and design).
*** Creative tip for crafty people : if you like have leather / suede shoes and would like to refinish/decorate them, acrylic paint or Rhinestones might add a unique touch to your favourite shoes. Check craft magazines / web articles / youtube for more tips.
